Tearoom

Last night I decided a jaunt was in order...no one had seen my 'strong look' all day damnit, so after a tip off by the lovely Will, I tottered down to the Swallow Street gallery for the opening of 'Tearoom' by William E Jones.

And I'm very glad I did. Not just see the film, but catch the talk between the artist and Stuart Comer, film curator at Tate, and wearer of super nice cobalt blue socks. It's very araely a bad thing to see an artist talking about their work, and here it answered questions. The footage is 16mm filmed as surveillance footage for the Ohio police in 1962. It is the 'work' of one policeman - called Bruce, doves - who spent every day for 8 weeks in poky little cupboard behind a 2-way mirror in the public conveniences in the centre of Mansfield, Ohio. His aim was to find evidence to convict men of the then-illegal act of sodomy. As a result of his efforts, 31 men were sentenced to a minimum of 1 year in prison.

Go and see it! It's projected from the inside in such a way that you can view the top half of the frame from the street. Although in that sense you only really see the top's of people's heads, you somehow know what's going on...

Halloween, Hong Kong

I really regretted not going out in costume in the end - had an amazing corpse bride look all ready, and then when I saw my companions were all looking totally normal....

Homecoming

i haven't just taken a picture for the fuck of it, for me, for ages.

i would never complain about work - god, I'm constantly trying to get it, but occasionally I miss those little islands of unemployment> The whole laptop debacle has been really depressing...i know the things I didn't back up would be little sketches, folders labelled "weird Street Shit" and bits of random writing that didn't really belong anywhere..
OH WAFFLE...

god my famous patience is really tested by my own bitching and moaning, and this ancient keyboard, from like maybe 1999 makes typing a full body work out. grrrak!

the crux of it is... here is a self portrait of me lit by the halogen heater which is keeping me alive, photoshopped to look like 70000 other pictures off FFFOUND, a stimulating discussion of whose merits can be found here. tomorrow i can start using my other computer and stop being so fucking boring.

doldrums

no disrespect to The XX by putting them under that title. I've just been listening to this a lot. And it's been a fairly rubbish week. Technology fails...difficult jobs...early cold mornings and shivery sleepless nights.

I've got nothing to complain about - i know. I think what with the show, going on hols and generally being dead busy, I'm suddenly filled with a sense of anti-climax. Or it could be because the nights have drawn in that i literally want to curl up under a duvet all the time.

anyway, that explains the lack of posting. i wanted to write more, but my studio neighbour very kindly gave me some wine and now i'm struggling to resist having a curl up on the sofa bed...
promise to be more post-y and interesting with it xx

HK cat

Been SO shit about posting. Busy times, lots of fun had too natch, but am mourning the premature death of my new computer so am back to 'old faithful'. Hate being so reliant on stuff.

This is Henry, looking pensive in Hong Kong. He'd normally rather chew his own arm off than pose for me, so am lucky to have this rare shot of him not pulling a ridiculous face
